Eliminating stress is something that most of us try to achieve and the author of the JapanesePod101 blog finds Japanese maples wonderfully calming and has planted two in her garden. Certainly, I find  many people stroking my display plants, particularly the dissectum forms, in much the same way one would stroke a pet. The visual aspect of a Japanese maple also seems to have a soothing effect – perhaps it’s the aura of serenity that surrounds them.

The site itself is devoted to learning Kanji, the Japanese language and has an aside on the true meaning of the word ‘momiji’, generally used to mean ‘Japanese maple’. If you’ve ever wondered what the literal translations of all the Japanese cultivar names are or even looking to learn the language and culture, this is an excellent site and can be found here.
